Proquigel Química Ltda. is founded by Dr. Henri Slezynger in São Paulo-SP, Brazil.
Development of proprietary technology of suspension polymeriration and production of PMMA and SAN resins in a small facility in São Paulo-SP.
In 1973, polystyrene production began and operations were transferred to São Bernardo do Campo-SP
In 1979, operation were expanded to the state of Bahia, for the production of a broad portfolio of thermoplastic resins and chemical intermediary products.
After decades of product and technology development, integration of the value chain began to take place through a series of strategic acquisitions:
CBE, in 1984, for the production of styrene;
Metacril, in 1992, for the production of MMA and acrylic sheets;
Acrinor, in 1997, for the production of acrylonitrile.
Still in 1997, operation began in a PMMA production plant in the Acrylics complex in Bahia.
After a successful consolidation of the Acrylics and Styrenics businesses in the previous decades, the Acrylics business became international upon the acquisition of Plastiglas in Mexico, where acrylics sheets are still produced to this day.
In 2007, the company further expanded its international businesses by acquiring MMA and sulfuric acid plants in Mexico.

Além disso, em 2010, foi concluído o projeto de expansão da capacidade de Acrílicos, elevando a produção de metacrilatos e sulfato de amônio.
In 2016, expansion of the sodium cyanide production plant in Bahia was completed.
In 2017, operations began in a latex production plant in the Dow Chemical petrochemical complex in Guarujá-SP.
In 2018, expansion of the styrene production plant in Camaçari-BA was completed
Release of the Ecogel line of sustainable styrene resins, with up to 30% of post-consumer materials in its composition.
Opening of a Glacial Methacrylic Acid (GMAA) production plant in Candeias-BA, which operates based on production technology developed in Unigel’s Center for Innovation & Technology
Launch of Unigel’s Agro division, which combines already existing ammonium sulfate production capacity from the Acrylics division with a new operation of nitrogen fertilizers production in two plants leased from Petrobras in Camaçari-BA and Laranjeiras-SE.
